I am about to move from South Jersey to North Jersey (Bloomfield/Montclair) and need to rent a small truck, and planned on taking the Turnpike to exit 11 then the parkway the rest of the way to exit 148-150, but recently learned that "no trucks" are allowed on the parkway in that area... DOes that include my small-sized u-haul truck, or can I get away with that? It's not for commercial use, just moving personal stuff from one apartment to another. Can I get away with this? If not, how else can I get there? Thanks!

No they are not. At least on the north and central end. I do advise you to google accidents and lawsuits against Uhaul. These are very very dangerous vehicles with little to no maintenence.

We all have been behind a UHaul at one time or another and watched them sway side to side like a drunk was behind the wheel.

Why dont you give Budget or Hertz a try. Safety is more important then price.

Renting from Budget or Hertz won't get him the answer to his question, nor will it let him ride on the GSP in a truck.

North of exit 105, no trucks are allowed. I think MOST of what they rent are in fact trucks, though I guess it's possible a few small vans are available that might be small enough to e allowed on the GSP. If you aren't sure about the classification of the vehicle you rent, you should be able to ask the truck rental place.

we had a big long discussion about this last time and I think the weight limit is 3500 #, which is less than most full sized sedans. ridiculous. but dont mind the people pulling their huge boats or campers...

For GSP I would not rent anything bigger than one of their vans. Now, I HAVE driven a 15' box truck from 130 to 140 and not been caught but I was lucky. There are about 6 speeds traps between those exits and very very low bridges. 11-12' on one end of the lowest one I think.

Their van is a bit too small for my needs, but the next size is a small truck, which I would require. Sounds like I will need to alter my course, and I'll also check out Hertz vs Uhaul.

Only reason I mentioned Uhaul is that I have moved 3 times in the past and used them 3 times and havent had a problem.

Don't risk the truck on the Parkway. Just take the Turnpike North to the exit for 280 West (I think it's exit 15). Take 280 West to the Verona Exit (sorry, I don't know exit #'s that well but it should say Montclair or Verona). Then follow that Road (Prospect Ave) to Bloomfield Avenue. It's about 2-3 miles from the exit on 280.

Make a right onto Bloomfield Avenue and this will take your right through Montclair and Bloomfield.

No, U-haul trucks aren't allowed on the GSP, I was also moving stuff in a 14'' U-haul truck from South Jersey and got a ticket near exit 110. But I like U-haul, I think theyre the cheapest most convenient and open on days budget etc are closed.
